I give students SMART feedback consistently throughout the course.

At the beginning of a course, you make the learning goals and assessment expectations explicit. You also make it clear when students will get feedback on their progress and how they can use that feedback to improve their work product. Assessment criteria or rubrics are linked to assignments and you encourage students to use these to self-asses before and after turning in work products.
